GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 11th. June, 1914.

334

Sir,

I have the honour to inform you that I have

been approached by the local representative of the Young Men's Christian Association in the matter of a suitable site for the new Young Men's Christian Association Building which that Association proposes to erect in Hongkong. A wealthy philanthropist resident in the United States of America has, I understand, placed a large sum of money in the hands of the Committee for this purpose. The Association is a useful one providing as it does bedrooms and recreation rooms and certain educational facilities for young men. It occupies at present rented premises in the City of Victoria.

2.

The area comprising the two adjoining lots shewn coloured red and blue on the accompanying plan, 7,707 square feet in total extent, would appear to provide a suitable site. This area is at present occupied by the Peak Tramway Terminus, but if a proposed realignment of the Tramway should be carried out, it will revert to Government who will pay 25 cents per square foot for it, the price at which the site was alienated to the Tramway Company.

If you approve I propose to offer the Committee an option on the site, should it become available on the following terms:

1. Premium to be paid at the rate of 50 cents per square

foot.

2. Crown Rent to be assessed at $300.00 per acre.

3.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
